Ukraine Heritage Month

Every September, Ontario celebrates the cultural contributions and enduring legacy of Ukrainian Canadians.

A Historic Milestone

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Bill 215 passed in the Provincial Parliament, officially designating September as Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario. This is a significant achievement for the Ukrainian community in Ontario and across Canada. MPP Sheref Sabawy introduced this important legislation to Parliament.

Why It Matters

Establishing Ukrainian Heritage Month is a meaningful recognition of the cultural contributions and enduring legacy of Ukrainian Canadians. For both the Ukrainian and Canadian communities, this month celebrates the values, traditions, and history that have enriched the social and cultural fabric of Canada.

Ukrainian Heritage Month serves as an opportunity for Canadians to honour the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Ukrainian immigrants and their descendants, reinforcing the shared values that bind our communities. By dedicating September to Ukrainian heritage, Ontario fosters understanding and solidarity, strengthening the connections between Ukrainian and Canadian identities.

Inaugural Celebrations — September 2025

To launch the inaugural celebrations in September 2025, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress — Ontario Provincial Council will install a full-colour banner (18' × 16') to reside for an extended time on a prominent wall in Toronto's Bloor West Village. We hope to install a smaller version of the banner in other communities throughout Ontario.
